Hot Shot
Here we go! Join us and the book team with some insights into our newest book, Hot Shot!
We love a good sports romance. Can you give us some insight into Hot Shot?
Megan: Hot Shot follows a sports reporter as they attempt to get the scoop on the icy team captain of the local team, the Blades. But when the cold front dissipates, things heat up between the two.
Coral: Hot Shot is everything you want from a sports romance: a surly captain with a guarded heart, a rowdy team of hockey players who might be trying to set you up, and a spunky MC to meet the challenge. Oh, and steam. Lots and lots of steam.
Assuming we’re associated with a sports team, can we look forward to meeting new friends and acquaintances? Maybe a love interest?
Vivian: There are definitely new friends and people to fall for!
Megan: There is a whole cast of characters featured in this book, both on and off the ice. The love interest is hot and cold in all the best ways and definitely keeps MC on their toes.
Coral: We had so much fun bringing a hockey team to life for this book, which includes all the gritty dynamics of a professional sports team. Obviously, the captain of the Blades is your love interest. Casey is on top of their game, one of the best in the league, and you have to figure out how to win them over. Then we have our supporting cast: Lebrowski, a golden retriever of a goalie with a love for top-shelf tequila; Kels, your love interest’s down-to-earth best friend and top defender, and… Brent, who is gunning for your love interest’s spot.
Speaking of teams, are there any rival teams we need to watch out for?
Vivian: Watch out, there's a bunch of teams ready to risk it all to win!
Megan: As with any rivals, there’s some history involved with a nearby team, but you’ll have to play in order to find out!
Coral: Story on the street is there’s a long, tense history between our Seattle Blades and their rivals, the Portland Polars…
Did the team need to look up hockey rules or is everybody on par with the lay of the game?
Megan: I definitely had to do some research when hopping into this book. It’s been an adventure learning the game, deciphering the lingo, and learning some slang.
Vivian: I've only watched hockey on and off. Because this book was hockey-based, I had to brush up on the rules and designs of this sport. It was fun being able to learn more about hockey.
Coral: Oh, we always do research. Before this project, my knowledge of hockey was on par with your average, casual fan. At my first hockey game, my home team shattered the glass right in front of my seat, and I was sold. As for the terminology, specific moves, and slang, I can confidently say I know way more about hockey than I ever intended to. At this point, I’m practically an expert.
Tell us: Who here on the Hot Shot book team is the biggest hockey fan? Also, what is everyone’s favorite hockey team?
Vivian: I think out of everyone, our art lead, Jordan, is the biggest fan of hockey. The Blades are my favorite hockey team! ;)
Coral: I’d have to say Rachel and Jeffrey, who were instrumental to helping us achieve the vision of a sporty romance when we first planned our story for Hot Shot. They kept me accountable with the hockey terminology, rules, and general culture of the sport, and we used that to shape everything about the story. We wanted players to be able to fully immerse themselves into the fantasy of dating a hockey star.
We’re so excited! Thank you for answering our questions. Look forward to Hot Shot this Friday!
