Roommates with Benefits
Things are about to heat up with our newest VIP release: Roommates with Benefits! ❤️🔥
Love is in the air and we’re so excited! Can you tell us a little more about this upcoming book?
Bre: Sure! In Roommates, you play as a headstrong transfer student who's supposed to be rooming with her lifelong best friend until a housing mix-up leaves you dorm-less. Thankfully, one wild night and a few frat party games later, your problem's solved! ...If you don't count having to live with the campus party animal as a problem.
We can’t wait to meet MC! Are there any particular characters we should look out for or lean on in certain situations?
Bre: Our love interest, Drew, is a lot of fun. They can be a little wild and crazy, but their heart is always in the right place.
Nathan: If you wanted to lean on someone, then Inez is your top pick. She always seems to have the correct answer, she is also really good at knowing when to get serious or when to relax!
Jayne: You should definitely look out for a certain busybody RA that's on a mission to kill some buzzes... yours most of all.
It sounds like we’ll be breaking out of a few comfort zones. Speaking of which, were there any scenes where you had to go out of your writing comfort zone during the brainstorming of RWB? No spoilers, of course!
Bre: Things get a little (okay, a lot) hot and steamy between MC and Drew, but there's a certain scene when they're alone with bubbles, and... let's just say our brainstorming team did what we came to do! On a more serious note, we actually tapped into a few other forms of media as the inspiration for a few scenes. I specifically remember referencing Detroit: Become Human for a search scene later in the book, and it's always so cool to see which strings we can tug on from the larger creative sphere.
Nathan: The party scenes were a little outside of my college experience, as I was in college a bit later than most. I don't actually know what goes on during most college parties, and at this point, I am almost too afraid to ask.
Jayne: I'd have to say all the crazy party mischief! I'm personally all about a chill night at a dive bar, so it was a blast coming up with big, blowout parties and all the shenanigans our characters get up to at them.
We’re down for a little creative mischief! Speaking of, we absolutely adore the book cover of RWB. What was your inspiration for the tone of this book and its characters? (Art and writing-wise!)
Bre: In a word: youth. We wanted to give players the freedom to go a little nuts. Have fun at a party, do the crazy thing you'd never dream of doing IRL, and kiss the person you know you shouldn't for no other reason than because you want to! Our characters are in college, so they're still learning about themselves, making mistakes, and growing, and there's beauty in the discovery.
Nathan: I think the cover art is great at showing how college can be a time with lots of wild parties and events, but also how that can all become background noise if someone who interests/excites you comes along.
Did you have the “normal” college experience? What character from Roommates with Benefits would you have wanted as a college best friend?
Bre: I'd say it was normal-ish. I did Greek life, but I was also an RA, so I got to live a bit of a double life... almost like a certain RWB character. Which is probably why my in-game bestie would definitely have been Inez. She's always down for a good time but knows when to call it a night. Balance is key.
Nathan: I did not have a normal college experience, as I only went after being in the military for about 10 years post high school. Since I was a little older than most, I was kind of like a "momma-bird" for most of my friends. I think with that I would either want Inez or Dutch as my best friend since they seem to know how to have a good time!
Jayne: My college experience was pretty normal – dorm life, frat parties, and avoiding any classes before 10 am. And I'm not gonna lie, I would've loved to have Davina as a college best friend. The girl is confident and always goes after what she wants – I would've hoped for some of that energy to rub off on me!
We can’t wait and are so excited to be able to experience college life together! Until then, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. See you on launch day!
