Spoiler alert for The Cursed Heart, Book 1! Read on at your own risk. We’re here with The Cursed Heart 2 team getting the inside scoop on one of this year’s most anticipated sequels:

Okay! We’re ready for anything you throw at us. But please be gentle. What adventures can we expect in The Cursed Heart 2?

Kathleen: (Ominous movie trailer voice) Your devotion vanquished Kieran's curse, but a new enemy with ties to Kieran's past threatens to awaken ancient magics and tear both Fae courts asunder. Is your love strong enough to survive scheming courtiers and rogue armies, or will this calamity be more than your mortal heart can bear?

Lil: Also, said scheming courtiers and rogue armies are very hot. Which goes without saying because this is Fae after all, but we figured you’d want to know.

Danielle: Everyone looks good 😫

Our beloved characters return! We’ve missed them so much. But are there any new characters that might enchant us?

Kathleen: There's so many, but first in my heart is Kieran's old pal Oleander who dresses like an angsty vampire poet and has just absolutely had it with all of you. They're kind of a jerk and dramatic as hell and they can annihilate you with one withering glare. I love them so much.

Emi: Ask anyone on the team and they'll tell you I'm obsessed with Jack, our abs-out antagonist who's more than ready to crush the courts.

Jay: Can confirm, Jack is Emi’s lock screen.

Lil: Jack and his crew are the best. We support changeling rights and changeling wrongs in this house. 

Tom: We put some extra thought into the designs and new aesthetics that come with Jack’s crew.

Lil: Also I know we’re supposed to hate them but Opulence is just the peak of haughty Fae perfection for me. It’s a shame they want to take Kieran from you, but I really respect their hustle. (Their pronouns and appearance are tied to yours too, so they can be one of several gender-non-conforming characters in the book!)

Artists, producers, writers… Were there any moments that stood out to you during the making of The Cursed Heart 2? Fantastical, sad, or comical?

Emi: Before we had names for some of our characters, we just tried to make Fae puns off characters who were similar, which led to Faemonger and Little Faenger.

Kathleen: Well there was that moment during brainstorms where Chelsa was like "Hear me out... what if we killed <REDACTED>" and Emi and Lil just went off on her like how dare, you monster, never in a million years, etc. and I'm just sitting there silently staring into the void like "Crap... we totally should. I hate you."

Emi: I'm still so upset 😭

Danielle:  <REDACTED> PERISHES?!?!!!

Jay: That moment when we decided to put avatars of ourselves in the book…😏

We’re excited to get back into fae land! What new and magical art or creatures can we look forward to in Book 2?

Lil: There is an adorable new animal companion to play with the King of Birds herself. And if you followed the Choose a Monster Poll for Blades 2 last year, they might look a little familiar.

Kathleen: I didn't think I could love anything more than the storybook collectible screen from Book 1, but Tom fully reimagined it for Book 2 and I'm floored, speechless, awestruck. 

Tom: Thanks, Kathleen! :) I had so much fun working on it and I can’t wait for our players to experience it! 

Lil: The backgrounds Tom and Danielle came up with are absolutely stunning too. You’ve got a whole new part of the Fae Realm to explore! (Danielle 💖’s This)

Emi: Getting to be in the book is absolutely a fun highlight, I just wish I was as buff as my Cursed Heart counterpart.

Kathleen: We all wish we were as buff as Emi's Cursed Heart counterpart.

Danielle: Yes! You might see some of your friendly neighborhood Pixelberries in this book! ლ(◉‿◉ ლ)

Erin: Having a character created in my likeness is definitely one of the coolest things to ever happen to me. She’s like if I were peak coolness instead of working from home in my daytime pjs.

Okay, last question… Be honest: Do you belong in the Moon Court or the Sun Court?

Emi: I wanna be a cool Moon Court member, but I'm from the desert and would literally wither without the Sun, so I guess I'm vibing with our favorite bear princess!

Kathleen: Whereas I am from the Pacific Northwest and the sun is my mortal enemy. Moon Court forever, give me the darkness.

Danielle: I feel like Sun Court makeup wouldn’t match my skintone.

Tom: Seeing as how autumn is my favorite season only because it’s a prelude to my actual favorite season, winter, I have to go with Moon Court.

Jay: Depends on the day… I'm indecisive.

Erin: This is a tough call, because I love sunshine and warmth, but as a lifelong night owl, I feel compelled to choose the Moon Court. If I could sleep at sunrise and wake at sunset, I probably would.

Lil: I’m gonna go with Jack on this one. Down with the Courts. Long live the abs.
